Systems, It’s ALL About Systems

I’m reading a great book from Sam Carpenter about the importance of systems and how they allowed him to work less and achieve more.

Actually he works only two hours per week and makes more in a week than he used to make in a month thanks to his “systems”.

That got me thinking about the “systems” I have created and use on a daily basis and how I could share these with you so you can benefit.

You see the MOST successful businesses and indeed the MOST successful people incorporate simple “systems” that deliver amazing results time and time again.

For example, McDonalds is well known as a company that is successful mainly because of the systems they have invented, tweaked and perfected. Systems that are used by EVERY one of their franchises Worldwide

McDonalds also embraced change and realised the importance of being adaptable in a competitive marketplace. But that’s for another email

So getting back to “systems”…

… You see we use these everyday and don’t even consider them to be systems. Are whole lives are controlled by “systems”.

For example; you may have a set “system” for making a cup of coffee, it could go something like this. (instant coffee system for simplicity)

1). Fill kettle with water

2). Plug kettle into wall socket and switch it on

3). While waiting for water to boil, grab clean cup from kitchen cupboard.

4). Take jar of instant coffee from cupboard.

5). Take teaspoon from cutlery drawer

6). “Scoop” one to two teaspoons of instant coffee and place in cup (depending on taste).

7). Once water has boiled, pour on coffee in cup

8). Stir coffee (add milk if you like)

9). Enjoy!

Now you may consider the above to be too “detailed”; however, this is the way we operate on a daily basis in MOST aspects of our life. I bet you even have a SET system for getting ready in the morning, getting ready for a night out, your commute to the office or school run, if you do any exercise you’ll no doubt have a “routine” which is just another name for a system.

The point is we use “systems” everyday, yet when it comes to our “online business” we seem to ignore the “value” of systems and instead implement organised chaos!

Here’s how I envisage a “typical”, novice internet marketer approaching their business (my opinion only based on many, many conversations – also slightly tongue in cheek)

1). Logon Computer

2). Check “to do list” will computer boots up

3). Login to email

4). Email headline attracts attention

5). Click on link

6). Purchase product

7). Download product

8). Study product and begin to implement

9). Stop studying and implementing due to frustration

10). Leave computer to do “something” (anything else, argh!!)

11). Come back to computer

12). Switch it off due to confusion

13). Look at “to-do-list”

14). Throw it in bin

15). Go watch TV

If the above resonates on any level with you then YOU must look to “systematise” your business ASAP otherwise you’ll continue to go round in circles like a one legged duck on pond.

The first step of implementing ANY system improvement is to look at what you are doing now and to document the process fully. This will help you to identify KEY areas where you can make changes and see the benefits instantly.

Try the above and monitor it for the next 24 to 48 hours and you’ll be surprised at how much WASTAGE their is within your current systems and identify just why you aren’t as successful as you deserve to be.

Yes I’m stating that to be truly successful you require better systems, systems that you can implement quickly and replicate throughout your business.

Believe me once you have got into the habit of doing this you will see dramatic shifts in your online success and your income will jump leaps and bounds.

Don’t think systems are only for BIG businesses, systems are for ANY business especially yours!

Better late than never… There’s a lesson here!

OK , hands up…

I’ve been a little (LOT) lacking when it comes to this site/blog.

In my defence there were MANY very good reasons for NOT updating the site. (we’ll get to these near the end).

Now I know what the “guru’s” say … “You MUST have a BLOG to succeed!”

Well em, NO you DO NOT need to have a BLOG to succeed and I can prove it.

You see I don’t “like” to conform, I don’t like to follow the herd in the hope that we’re all heading in the right direction. No I like to be a maverick and do things with a little twist here and there. OK a LOT of twists, ducks, dives and ninja manoeuvres.

Now I’ll be the first to admit, had I “followed” the herd a few years back I would probably, no I would DEFINITELY have made a LOT more money online.

“So why didn’t you follow the heard you fool?” I hear you say…

Simple, I like to test and tweak and break things and look at alternative solutions to problems. Weird I know; however, if it wasn’t for this approach I wouldn’t have been able to “discover” methods of making money online WITHOUT any up front costs!

Yep you read that right; no up front cost, nothing, zilch, nada, totally cost free methods of making money online!

I wanted to prove to myself and others that it IS possible to become successful online without ANY financial outlay whatsoever, not even a dime…

And BOY did I prove it was possible – It STILL IS

Saying that it cost me four years of my life “testing” and over $60,000 of my income and my savings!! But you’re worth it

At the time I didn’t realise I had embarked on a “quest”; however, looking back it was those LEAN years, those frustrating late night, early morning long lonely sessions at the computer that helped to forge me into the person I am today.

Saying that here I am now in October 2011, sitting in my bedroom in Saudi Arabia at 02:40 writing this blog post… ah some things never change.

Anyway, getting back on track…

I believe that “forging” during the early years, has made me stronger and dare I say sharper, a bit like the Japanese Katana. It is claimed that a real Katana is folded over 1,000,000 times and this is what gives it the amazing strength and sharpness. Perhaps all those times I almost “folded” were actually me being forged into something much more special? Just a thought, hey humour me its early morning here.

My REAL quest as touched upon above was to unearth methods or marketing that wouldn’t cost a “dime”.

Sure I could rank WordPress blogs on Google, still can; sure I could optimise my PPC landing pages to get cheaper clicks; however, I wanted something that EVERYONE could do and do it totally free of charge.

And so…

Stupidly Simple SEO was born!

The #1 quickest way to get ranked on Google. Actually the quickest recorded was 29 seconds. I know you won’t believe me so the screen shot is below. (click on it to see a bigger view)

Yes I had found a way to get simple one page articles onto the TOP of Google typically in under 6 minutes and the best part, once they hit page one they were “sticking” at the top, some still are. Google: acai berry tea review (the xomba post is mine and I STILL get Amazon commissions off this page!

I shared these findings with my new members courtesy of Clickbank and some very well known JV Partners and the rest as they say is history!

These days we do things a little differently favouring YouTube videos made with FREE software such as Animoto and also Facebook Pages. Yes you can SEO a Facebook page. Oh you want proof? Google: SEO V2 and then Google: I love Rock Band 3

So this brings me back to the statement at the very start of this post… “You MUST have a blog to be successful online!”

Well I hope that the above has proved this is NOT the case!

As I’ve mentioned you can create Facebook Fanpages, YouTube Videos, Articles, Press Releases etc, etc ALL for free and make a fantastic income from them all.

Sure you’re probably going to want a website/blog set up in the future; however, why go to the expense now when there are so many FREE ways to make money?

Once you start generating the income then move onto the “paid” offerings.
